BENT RIB: A JOURNEY THROUGH WOMEN'S ISSUE IN ISLAM is the result of the author's exploration of a number of issue surrounding Muslim women, especially those which critics of Islam use as ammunition. These are issue which are concern to all Muslim women. Bent Rib examines a number of controversial issue such as domestic violence, female genital mutilation and failure to educate girls, and points out the divergence between Islamic teaching and actual culturally-influenced, practice. The problem is not Islam itself, but unlslamic practices that are prevalent in many com­munities, a situation which has to be addressed.

HUDA KHATTAB is a british-born Muslim writer who holds a BA (Hons.) degree in Arabic from the School of Oriental and African Studies (London University). She is the author of The Muslim Women's Handbook and stories from the Muslim World, and has also translated several books from Arabic. Huda Khattab is married, and lives with her husband and children in Toronto, Canada.
